Reimagining of Historical Church

Newport Construction was selected to form the project team and lead the preconstruction and construction phases of the 25,000 SF new construction within the existing historical masonry church in downtown Charleston.  The project includes the complete demolition of the church’s interior wood structures and roof systems, helical piers, new foundations and a new internal steel structure.  9 new high-end living units were constructed at the upper floors served by a new elevator.  On the ground level a 7000 SF commercial office space was built out to include a kitchen two bathrooms and glass walls at all offices.  The upper floors at the project include removal of the existing barrel roof, a new rooftop penthouse structure to replace it, replacement of all historical windows, reconstruction of all three story gothic windows, new power and utility feeds, a building-wide fire protection system, new framing, MEP and final finishes.
